This is the first book in the Morganville series by Caine. Previously I have read the first four books in Caine’s Weather Warden series. I liked those four books okay, but I didn’t like the main characters all that much, so I ended up dropping the series. When I heard she had a young adult series, I wanted to give that one a try because I thought I might like it better. Overall I thought this book was okay, but it had some of the same problems that I had with the Weather Warden series.

Claire is super smart. So, smart that she graduated early and started going to college at the age of 16. Only her parents wouldn’t let her go away to school, so she is stuck going to University in the town of Morganville. Right from the beginning things go wrong; the cool girls are picking on her and stealing her laundry. It isn’t until one of the girls actually tries to beat her to death that she realizes something is seriously wrong. She ends up finding her way out of the dorms, where she feels like her life is in danger, and instead renting a room in the Glass House. There she finds that Morganville is not at all what it seems. She is in more danger than she ever suspected.

Everything about this book was okay for me. The characters were okay. I didn’t really love any of them, they were pretty stereo-typed in general. Claire is an okay character, and I think as we get to know her she might become more than okay. The guy characters in the book were okay too. The idea of vampires being evil is old. The action scenes were written okay, and the plot of the book was interesting enough to keep my interest, but not so engaging that I couldn’t put the book down.

The most interesting thing about this book is the way Caine set up the vampire/human relationship structure in the city of Morganville. The type of society she has set up is pretty neat. I also think that Claire has potential to become someone more interesting, and that the lead vampire Amelie could be a fascinating character if we get to read about her more. Additionally Caine doesn’t pull any punches when it comes to what her characters, especially Claire, has to endure.

The only thing I really hated about this book is that it ends with someone literally stabbing a knife at someone else; seriously in the middle of an action scene. What is up with that? I hate it when authors can’t wrap up a book in a decent way.

I have the next two books so I will read them and see if the series gets better. I would recommend at least getting the second book with the first because, as I said, the first book ends in the middle of an action scene. My first impression of this series is that it is okay, but nothing special.

This is the first book in the Moganville Vampire Series. Young adult, but good enough for adults to enjoy as well. The storyline gets started by giving the basic premise and introducing the main characters. All are interesting and compelling…you want to continue the series to find out more. Very well written, believable and the final chapter has a great cliffhanger!

I picked this book just as something to read on a rainy day. It was an easy to read book with a story line that is wonderful and was descriptive. The book was compelling enough without being drawn out and dragging. As you read, the character comes alive and attaches you into their history and life. There are little teases that are weaved in the storyline to keep you interested and hints of what is yet to come in the later series. The book is like a TV episodes in that it leaves you with a huge cliffhanger, so that you will go on a hunt for the next book. Overall, Glass House is a wonderful easy read for both young adult and adults alike. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for suspense with a supernatural twist. The book is fast paced with intriguing characters and storyline.

I began reading this series after my post-twilight book hunger. I was in desperate need to find good vampire books that were aimed more Y.A. than any of the more adult books. This book was actually pretty entertaining. The characters were fun, the town was very big and the vampires are “creepy”! My favorite character had to be Michael. He just surprised me overall. First of all, he plays the guitar, which just melts my heart and then of coarse he’s kind of like the father figure, always looking out for Shane. This book isn’t one of those typical vampires = love story. Well it sort of is but it’s mostly action packed. So readers will get a sense of refreshment from this book. Claire is also one of my favorite characters; she is extremely smart for a sixteen year old. Well she has the book smarts but not the street smarts. Eve is the punk rocker. She’s the sarcastic one out of the four. Then there has to be the love interest right? That’s where Shane comes in. Shane is hot, he’s a bad boy and he has a mysterious past. The characters are all very real and unique. The strange events that take place are very well written and brainstormed and it leaves us with a huge cliff hanger at the end. All in all this is a great book. If you’re looking to keep your vamp hunger on the edge than you should total get this book. I give this book 3.5 out of 5 paws.

Story was good, but I think it could have been a bit better. I prbably won’t continue with the whole series but if you like vampires trying to control humans, then this book is for you.

I’m going to be really honest here, I have not read the whole series, I’m just finished with The Awakening and the Struggle, and I can truly say it does not compare with the Twilight Series. True, this book has more social interaction of the characters, but it is not as compelling as Twilight, sorry.
I’m going to read the rest of the series (as soon as I’m done with my third round reading the Twilight series) and if my perception of the book changes in any way, I will be back to post a comment once more. :-)

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS BOOK!!!! I can’t seem to be able to put it down! Highly recommended!

I’ve been tentatively watching the TV series, and think it’s okay so far. I’ve curiously skimmed through a few reviews, and noticed how some people dislike the series. I’d like to remind everyone that this series was originally published in 1991. Young adult books back then weren’t as mature in content or writing as they are nowadays.

I read these books as a middle-schooler, and absolutely loved them. I went back and read a bit of the book a few years ago, only to find that it hasn’t held up well with the years (a bit cheesy and flimsy in writing). But do remember this came before Twilight, and that these books are enjoyable for what they are. I would still highly recommend it if you are a fan of vampire or paranormal stories.

I was not as impressed with these books as I was with the Twilight series.

Ive read all of The Vampire Diarie books and this is probably the best out of all of them but its not a very good read..it would be good for a first timer of vampire novels…but who am i to judge people have different views. I think that Elena and Stefan’s characters could have been a little better with the love parts…Damon was a good villian i belive but still this book was probably the best out of the whole series..

I enjoy vampire stories. I am a huge fan of the Twilight books and Buffyverse books and shows. I thought these books were good but not great. Some of the characters felt flat while others were very rich.

***SPOILER ALERTS****STOP READING IF YOU DON”T WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS!!!*** YOU’VE BEEN WARNED!!!*****

Let me start off by saying this–I didn’t think that another series would make me fall in love with a character more than I fell in love with Edward and Bella in “Twilight”. Being a vampire fan, I’ve read all the “Sookie Stackhouse” books, all the “Twilight” ones and have tackled the huge volume of a book that is “Interview with the Vampire”. I cried when Edward left Bella, I was REALLY upset when Stephenie Meyer said that “Breaking Dawn” was the last book in the saga, Eric Northman makes my toes curl (in the good way), and LeStat is quite possibly the vampire that I would never want to meet in a dark alley. I’ll admit that I hadn’t given much thought to “The Vampire Diaries” books until the CW decided turn the books into a TV series. And why shouldn’t they? The Twilight Saga is HUGELY successful on the big screen and True Blood on HBO had me hooked from the first bite :) I was wary to pick up another vampire book though, thinking that nothing would compare to the ones previously talked about. My interest was peaked, however, after watching the pilot episode for “Vampire Diaries” a few weeks ago. I immediately went to the store and snatched up a copy of the first book. It took a few chapters to hook me–I picked up on too many editing mistakes and it bothered me, but I trudged on, deciding to give it a chance. And let me tell you-it was worth staying up until 7am to finish. I think that I may love the relationship between Elena and Stefan MORE than Bella and Edwards or Sookie and Erics (even though it’s hardly one at all). This series is everything that Twilight isn’t in respect to maturity. While the cheesy romance lines in Twilight are cute, the realness of the relationship between Stefan and Elana once they finally get together is beautiful, and my heart literally breaks in two whenever LJ Smith paints a picture of what Stefan’s eyes look like when he thinks of his past. The plot lines are darker in this series than that in Twilight as well, making it feel, again, that it’s an older read. True, they both hail from the YA category, but I don’t necessarily feel like I’m reading fluff with these books. Definitely give this series a shot. As soon as I was finished with book one and two, I went and bought three and four and just finished them tonight. In book 4, I’m fairly sure that my heart shattered when Elana was pulled back into the darkness and Stefan screamed her name. LJ Smith wrote it SO beautifully that you would have to have a heart made of stone to NOT be affected by it. I had tears flowing out of my eyes for the entire rest of the book. Frankly, this series is better written than Twilight was and it came out WAY before Twilight was even a dream in Stephenie’s head. READ THIS SERIES–I promise that you won’t regret it!
